The Michigan Republican Party is wrapping up its efforts in National Voter Registration Week. We have found response to our attempts to register new voters to be very enthusiastic and encouraging, both this week and in our year-long campaign. Thank you to everyone who helped us this past week as we visited schools, senior centers and public events.
I would especially like to thank the Michigan State Senate and House, both of whom passed resolutions last week commemorating it as National Voter Registration Week. The text of each resolution acknowledges the principles upon which our country’s democracy was founded, principles which many men and women have given their lives to defend. Our government derives its powers from the consent of those governed and provides the right for each person to participate in that government through his or her vote.
