Gov. Snyder Appoints Judge David Viviano to Michigan Supreme Court
Schostak issues statement on behalf of the Michigan Republican Party

Lansing, Mich., Feb. 27, 2013 – Michigan Republican Party Chairman Bobby Schostak issued the following statement regarding the appointment of Judge David Viviano to the Michigan Supreme Court:

“Judge David Viviano is a strong addition to the Michigan Supreme Court and we applaud Gov. Rick Snyder for appointing such a respected member of the judiciary. Judge Viviano has demonstrated he is a compassionate leader, who understands the rule of law and the proper role of the Court.

“The Michigan Supreme Court is one of the most respected and revered institutions in the state of Michigan and without hesitation, I am certain Judge Viviano’s judicial experience, expertise and vision will help strengthen the Michigan Supreme Court.

Judge Viviano was appointed to replace former Democratic Supreme Court Justice Diane Hathaway who resigned after it became known that she lied to investigators in order to try to cover-up an illegal real estate transaction. Hathaway pled guilty to felony bank fraud and is awaiting sentencing. Viviano will run for Supreme Court in 2014 to fulfill the remainder of Hathaway’s term, which concludes in 2016.

Viviano earned degrees from Hillsdale College and the University of Michigan Law School. He is a member of the State Bar of Michigan, the Macomb County Bar Association, the Italian American Bar Association and the Illinois State Bar Association. He also is a member of the Macomb County Advisory Board of the Children’s Hospital of Michigan and a member of Michigan Right to Life.

Viviano and his wife Neran have two children.
