Steffek Tea Party still off ballot
August 30, 2010
Lansing, MI—Rulings today by the Michigan Court of Appeals will continue to keep the Steffek Tea Party off the ballot in November’s election. Michigan Republican Party Chairman Ron Weiser issued the following statement in response to court action:
“The Court of Appeals acted in the best interest of Michigan residents today with their action. We’ve known from the beginning that the Steffek Tea Party was a fraud against the people. From their inability to follow current state law regarding a party convention, to improperly filing candidate affidavits, to not clearly identifying the proper name of their party, to numerous candidates with ties to the Democrat Party, their actions were to deceive well-intentioned grassroots activists.
“It would come as no surprise to me if the Steffek Tea Party took their appeal to the Supreme Court in the hopes of finding a favorable ruling. Now that the court is stacked with Democrats because of back room political deals, that favorable ruling would be likely. It would be difficult then, for any rationally thinking individual not to see the connection the Democrat Party has with this group and it is shameful. As we’ve seen before, Democrats will stop at nothing to win an election. Apparently ethics is a foreign concept to the paid political operatives of the Democrat Party.”
