Last night, a lot of Republicans went to bed with heavy hearts. While the results in the Presidential and some other races weren’t what we wanted, there is much in Michigan to be proud of.
I want to begin by thanking our entire Republican team and every candidate who put their name on the ballot on behalf of our party. Especially the grassroots of the party who worked tirelessly for our candidates and our cause.
Your hard work produced a Republican firewall that fended off Pres. Obama’s momentum and the onslaught of union dollars, and produced victories across Michigan.
I want to congratulate Congressman Dan Benishek, Congressman Justin Amash and Congressman-elect Kerry Bentivolio for defeating Democrats in all three targeted seats. And, I want to congratulate Congressmen Dave Camp, Bill Huizenga, Candice Miller, Mike Rogers, Fred Upton and Tim Walberg for being re-elected and ensuring we send nine Republicans back to Washington in our Congressional delegation.
I want to thank Pete Hoekstra for running a strong race for U.S. Senate. Pete has been a tremendous asset and leader within the Republican Party.
The conservative rule of law majority on the Supreme Court was returned due to your hard work and I want to thank Judge Colleen O’Brien for running a strong campaign and congratulate Justice Stephen Markman and Justice Brian Zahra for being re-elected.
Republicans retained a strong 59-seat majority in the House – included electing Klint Kesto in the 39th District, which was previously held by Democrats.
Perhaps most importantly, together with Gov. Snyder’s leadership we stopped Democrats and union bosses from hijacking Michigan’s Constitution by defeating Prop. 2 and Prop. 4 – two priorities of union bosses. Union bosses wasted tens of millions of dollars of their members’ monies and were resoundingly rejected by voters.
Your hard work surpassed expectations, contacting more than 4 million voters, knocking on more than 1 million doors and implementing an absentee voter program that helped our candidates win across Michigan.
I want to thank Gov. Mitt Romney and Congressman Paul Ryan for waging a hard fought race. Many here in Michigan know or have grown to know the Romney family, we’ve fought hard to defend Paul Ryan when Democrats attacked his record, and I ask you to keep them in your thoughts and prayers, and thank them for their service to our country.
Lastly, I remain humbled by your hard work and dedication. Your love of our country and commitment to our party’s principles has always provided me with strength.
Thank you and God bless, Bobby Schostak |
