Obama to students: Take care of my tab
January 27, 2012
Obama provides lip service about student debt, fails to address trillions in debt he’s leaving for college students and generations to come
LANSING, Mich., Jan 27, 2012 – Statement from Bobby Schostak, chairman of the Michigan Republican Party regarding Obama’s visit to Ann Arbor, Mich., today:
“President Barack Obama visited the University of Michigan today as part of his taxpayer funded campaign trip. There is no mistaking that Obama’s delivered a political stump speech aimed at saving his job and not fixing the economy.
“Obama spoke about student debt but neglected to speak about the $48,691.41* in debt he’s added to each and every student and taxpayer due to his unsustainable spend and borrow policies that have added more than $4.5 trillion to the national debt in three years. Barack Obama’s lip services to students fell short and it is clear he does not recognize the impact of failing to address the mounting national debt.
“Barack Obama’s message to college students was clear: He’ll keep spending and leave the tab for future generations to pay. That’s reckless and not acceptable, Barack Obama is out of touch and his policies are bankrupting this nation.
“During Obama’s speech today, he called for “new report card for colleges,” here’s a taxpayer report card for Barack Obama:
- Debt – F – Four point five TRILLION added to the national debt in three years
- Unemployment – F – Flying high under Obama
- Leadership – F – Failed.
“Barack Obama has failed middle class taxpayers, he’s failed to address the national debt, he’s failed to create a stronger economy and he’s failed provide the hope and change he promised. Our country needs new leadership to take us in a new direction this November.”
