Stabenow Delivers Speeches and Campaigns but Fails to Address Lingering Issues Concerning Corzine
January 10, 2012
LANSING, Mich., Jan. 10, 2012 – Senator Debbie Stabenow campaigned in West Michigan this week, delivering a speech she titled the “State of Michigan Agriculture” before heading to Big Rapids for a fundraiser on Tuesday evening. Stabenow’s speech cited her investigation into her donor and former colleague Jon Corzine but failed to address lingering issues concerning her relationship with Corzine and MF Global.
Matt Frendewey, director of communications for the Michigan Republican Party issued the following statement:
“Senator Debbie Stabenow calls herself a champion for Michigan farmers but she’s failed to disclose the full extent of her relationship with Jon Corzine and MF Global prior to the company losing $1.2 billion and filing for bankruptcy. She’s failed to explain why she won’t follow President Obama’s example and return the donations she received from Corzine and his family. She’s failed to be transparent and answer serious questions that could impact her ability to investigate Jon Corzine, MF Global and find the missing $1.2 billion.
“In the last 24 months, did she solicit donations from Corzine, his colleagues or anyone associated with MF Global? Has Corzine assisted her by raising her funds? Is her aggressive posturing toward Corzine a result of his refusal to help her raise money or to insulate her due to her cozy relationship with Corzine? These questions deserve answers and Stabenow owes the Michigan’s citizens and farmers who lost money honesty and transparency.”
