MDP and Dem Candidate Violate Campaign Finance Laws

Michigan Democrats gave over legal contribution limits to 109th special election candidate Sara Cambensy:

LANSING, Mich., November 7, 2017 –  The Michigan Republican Party filed a complaint today with the Secretary of State against the Democratic State Central Committee and the Committee to Elect Sara Cambensy for violating campaign finance law.  MDP gave, and Cambensy accepted, $15,000 in direct contributions.  State law limits the giving from a state party to a State House candidate to $10,000, and also limits the amount a State House can accept to $10,000.

“Michigan Democrats are once again playing fast and loose with campaign finance laws,” Michigan Republican Party Chairman Ron Weiser said.  “They think the laws do not apply to them.  Whether it is their record-breaking fine with the FEC, their late reporting fines, or now, blatantly violating the most basic rules on contribution limits, Michigan Democrats have demonstrated repeatedly that they believe themselves to be above the law.  They are not, and we will hold them accountable.”

Sara Cambensy’s late contribution reports show a $10,000 contribution on 10/27/17, followed by an additional $5,000 contribution on 11/1/17.  Gongwer News Service also reported on the original $10,000 contribution, as well as the additional $5,000 from MDP in their newsletter on 11/6/17
