1% Stein Asks for Overturn of State Recount Statute Because of Her Delay in Filing for Recount

Stein Lack of Preparation Causing Her to Ask for Emergency Overturn of State Recount Law in Wasteful, Unnecessary Recount

LANSING, Mich., Dec. 4, 2016 – Michigan Republican Party Chairman Ronna Romney McDaniel blasted a last-minute, deceptive effort by Jill Stein to attempt to overturn state law because of her delay in filing a petition for recount. McDaniel cited Michigan statute, which clearly provides two business days after a petition decision by the Board of Canvassers. McDaniel noted that Stein, a Massachusetts resident, is forcing Michigan taxpayers to subsidize her 1% recount with millions of dollars, even though she knows she won’t change the outcome, has produced no evidence of fraud or mistake, and recognizes the possibility that her pointless recount could jeopardize Michigan electors’ role in the electoral college and the will of the Michigan voter.

Chairman Romney McDaniel issued the following statement:

“Jill Stein’s lack of preparation is becoming everyone else’s cost and emergency. Donald Trump won Michigan. Jill Stein is trying to call our results into question, throwing human error, fraud, and chaos into our process at a cost of millions of dollars to our taxpayers. The Michigan Republican Party will continue to fight on behalf of Michigan taxpayers to end this worthless recount which will cost Michigan taxpayers millions.”
