Fate of Stein’s 1% Multi-Million Taxpayer-Funded Recount Uncertain

Board of Canvassers Deadlocks

LANSING, Mich., Dec. 2, 2016 – Michigan Republican Party Chairman Ronna Romney McDaniel issued the following statement regarding the deadlock vote of the Board of Canvassers:

“It is clear that Stein’s 1% multi-million taxpayer funded recount should not move forward. We will weigh all of our options to help protect the will of the Michigan voters and taxpayer funds that would be wasted in this reckless effort. Stein is not an aggrieved candidate, she cannot possibly win, and she is putting the participation of every single Michigan voter in jeopardy, for no reason, at an exorbitant cost to the Michigan taxpayers.

“Michigan Democrats now have ownership over the millions of taxpayer funds that will be wasted on this recount,” McDaniel said. “The Democrats, represented by 2 members of the Board of Canvassers, voted to continue this sham. Donald Trump, Michigan Republicans are the only ones fighting for the Michigan taxpayers. The Democrats should immediately join us in calling for an end to the recount.”

Hillary Clinton has until Wednesday to submit an objection to the Stein campaign’s petition for recount, but has stayed silent on the issue.
