On Tuesday, Senate Majority Leader Mike Shirkey announced that the Michigan Senate would be creating a taskforce seeking to reopen Michigan for business. The bipartisan taskforce will evaluate next steps in easing the current regulations that the governor’s executive orders have imposed for businesses across the state.
Senator Shirkey, a small business owner himself, has his Jackson business, Orbitform, currently in the process of creating a sanitization system for N95 masks. The Michigan Chamber of Commerce and National Federation of Independent Businesses applauded Shirkey’s move that seeks to safely reopen certain businesses across the state, while still adhering to social distancing and non-essential travel guidelines.
“I would like to thank Majority Leader Shirkey for his initiative in seeking to get Michigan’s economy re-opened and back on track.” said Laura Cox, Michigan Republican Party Chairman. Cox continued, “Our Michigan businesses are the backbone of our state, and it is very reassuring that they have an ally in the legislature and a light at the end of this tunnel.”
