Due to overwhelming success and historic demand during the COVID-19 crisis, the $349 billion portion of the Paycheck Protection Program hit its cap on Thursday. While this had been anticipated for over a week, Senate Democrats - including Michigan Senator Gary Peters - continue to block additional funding for the program unless partisan demands are met. Without additional funding, thousands of Michigan small businesses face an uncertain future.
However, this has not stopped Peters and Democrat Minority Leader Chuck Schumer from hosting a $1,500 per person minimum virtual fundraiser next Thursday to support Peters’ reelection campaign. The following invitation went out to Peters’ supporters on Thursday:
“Yet again, Gary Peters is putting politics above the people of Michigan,” said Laura Cox, Chairman of the Michigan Republican Party. Cox went on to say, “While small business wonder where their next check to pay employees is going to come from, Gary Peters and Chuck Schumer will be fundraising with the liberal elite. It’s time for Gary Peters to figure out where his next paycheck is going to come from, because the people of Michigan are going to show him the door this November.”
