This morning, Governor Gretchen Whitmer joined Politico Playbook Live for yet another audition in her bid to become Joe Biden’s pick for Vice President – going as far to tell her national audience that they were “cut from the same cloth”. Since the COVID-19 outbreak began in Michigan, the governor has made over 60 national appearances.
This follows Whitmer’s weekend appearance on ABC’s “This Week with George Stephanopoulos”, in which she publicly disputed the medical advice of one of Michigan’s leading medical professionals, Dr. Mohammed Arsiwala. This advice helped save the life of Detroit State Representative Karen Whitsett as she battled with coronavirus.
In recent days, Whitmer has come under fire for various missteps – including hiring Pete Buttigieg’s former press secretary, awarding a no-bid contract to a democrat data firm and snubbing State Representative Karen Whitsett because she said nice things about the president.
“It is no surprise that Governor Whitmer continues to take the national stage, vying to become Joe Biden’s Vice Presidential pick,” said Laura Cox, Michigan Republican Party Chairman. “Whitmer continues to try and cover up the messes she’s made by casting herself in a favorable light in the national media. As many times as the governor says, ‘I’m not focused on politics right now’ her national appearances say otherwise. Michigan deserves a full-time governor right now – not someone who’s main focus is presidential politics.”
