The following is a statement from Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox regarding the announcement by Michigan Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson that she will send a mass mailing of postcards encouraging nearly 4.4 million voters to vote from home. The project will cost $1.4 million with an additional $2 million to provide localities with pre-paid postage for return envelopes.
“Yesterday’s announcement is simply the latest move by Jocelyn Benson to move Michigan to an all-mail voting system. Yet again, Benson will be picking and choosing who receives these postcards, and what localities will get ‘free’ return postage. If that doesn’t sound like a recipe for picking voters based on partisan advantage, I don’t know what does.”
