Cox Statement on Southfield Election Fraud Case
LANSING, Mich., September 24, 2019 – The following statement is from Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox regarding the six felony charges filed against City of Southfield clerk, Democrat Sherikia L. Hawkins. The charges all relate to the 2018 November elections and accuse Hawkins of forgery, falsifying records, misconduct in office and using a computer to commit a felony.
“The charges that have been filed today against Democrat Sherikia Hawkins are extremely troubling, especially because they involve the absentee ballot process. The Michigan Republican Party has always remained committed to protecting ballot security, and to ensuring the integrity of our state’s elections. In light of these allegations, we call on Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson to immediately release to the public all correspondence between her, her office, Sherikia L. Hawkins, and the Southfield City Clerk’s office.”
