Cox Statement on Sterling Heights Mayor Support of Biden

LANSING, Mich., March 11, 2020 – The following statement is from Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox regarding yesterday’s announcement by Sterling Heights Mayor Michael Taylor that he would be supporting Democrat Joe Biden for President.

“It’s no shock that Mike Taylor is supporting Joe Biden for President, after all he is not really a Republican. No fiscally-minded conservative would ever spend $340,000 of taxpayer money on a modern art ‘landmark’ which has been compared to a ‘golden butthole’. Clearly, Mike Taylor is nothing more than a political opportunist. Just two months ago, Taylor accepted an invitation to the White House and praised thePresident. He then praised Mayor Pete. Then praised Michael Bloomberg.”

“The fact is, Joe Biden spent the last 30 years voting for trade deals which cost Michigan nearly 170,000 manufacturing jobs. Under President Trump’s leadership, 20,000 manufacturing jobs have moved back to our state and over 100,000 jobs have been created overall. Donald Trump’s America First message was the reason Macomb County flipped in 2016, and the promises he’s kept are the reason why it will go for him again in 2020.  Clearly, it takes one ‘golden butthole’ to know another. ”
