Former Democrat Insider to Share #WalkAway Story

Andra Elle Crawford, former career campaign manager and finance director for Democratic candidates, speaks to the Eastside Republican Club on Tuesday, Oct. 15.

"We are excited to have Ms. Crawford share her first-hand account of how she came to walk away from the Democratic Party. This is happening more and more in recent days. It will be enlightening to hear her personal story,” commented Eastside Republican Club vice chairman Marie Hackleman in advance of the meeting.

She added, “The Forum is open to the public at no charge, so all are invited to come hear her story.”

Forum doors open at 7 p.m. for coffee and networking in advance of the 7:30 p.m. meeting.

Crawford previously spent twelve years as a Democrat insider working on campaigns for Democratic organizations and candidates.

She will tell how–though growing up in a Democrat household–three years ago she came to realize that her values aligned with Republican, and more specifically, conservative principles. Despite opposition and rejection from family and former colleagues, she joined the Republican Party in 2016.

Crawford is now a Republican political consultant assisting conservatives in their campaigns for public office.

She holds a political science BA from Western Michigan University with emphasis on international/comparative politics, a minor in Japanese, and currently resides in Detroit.

Crawford is one of a growing number in what is now a movement, first launched by a former Democrat, Brandon Straka, in 2018 with the hashtag “#WalkAway.”

Examples of other such awakenings on the national stage are Candace Owens and Sonnie Johnson, both of whom walked away from the Democratic Party. Today, Owens and Johnson are popular national broadcast commentators and speakers. Just this summer Candace Owens addressed a sell-out crowd in Troy.

The Eastside Republican Club Forum meets on the third Tuesday each month from September through May at the War Memorial. Admission is free and the public is always welcome. Stay up-to-date and “like” the ERC on Facebook.
