Ocasio Cortez exposes Peters’ campaign claims of bi-partisanship as a joke that will be ignored if Democrats take full-control of the U.S. Capitol
LANSING, Mich., October 26, 2020 – Gary Peters’ Senate seat must be saved to ensure a “memorable shift” to progressive polices, despite the fact he has been attempting to campaign as a moderate, bi-partisan candidate, according to progressive leader Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez
On CNN over the weekend, Ocasio Cortez said that reelecting Gary Peters is key to a “once in a generation” chance for progressives to run wild with policies that will hurt Michigan’s economy and family checkbooks.
That is in stark contrast with what Peters says on the trail about bipartisanship. But Peters has given many hints about his readiness to follow Ocasio Cortez’s progressive plans for Congress:
- Green New Deal: Peters refused to cast a vote against the Green New Deal when he had the chance last year, instead he weakly voted “present”.
- Medicare For All: Behind closed doors, Peters told progressive activists that “The path forward is where you're going to have a ‘Medicare for All’ down the road, that's probably where we're going to go…”
- Votes lock-step with liberal leadership: Peters votes along with super-liberal Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer 95% of the time.
“Gary Peters tries to wear the mantle of bipartisanship but he quietly courts the radical progressive agenda that will cost Michigan families their money and jobs,” said Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox. “Thankfully, his allies like Rep. Ocasio Cortez are unafraid to tell the truth about what the future looks like if Gary Peters is reelected.”
