Peters is skipping debates to avoid scrutiny of his record but even in yesterday’s format of separate appearances, Peters simply could not defend his record
LANSING, Mich., October 19, 2020 – In case you missed it, The Detroit News reported last night that Gary Peters told the newspaper in 2013 that Peters had signed up for a standard Obamacare plan like his constituents, when in truth he was secretly taking exclusive, gold-plated health insurance provided by Michigan taxpayers for a handful of former elected officials.
- “Peters' staff told The Detroit News in 2013 that he signed up for a health plan through the federal exchange in 2013.”
2013 was also the year that Peters amended his congressional financial disclosures from 2008-2012 to admit that he was taking a non-ACA exchange benefits plan— yet another way in which he withheld the truth from voters.
Peters’ exclusive health insurance plan, which he still uses today, is not only far better than a standard Obamacare exchange plan, but is also totally unavailable to the Michigan residents Peters serves in Congress.
Business leader John James, on the other hand, not only knows the difficulties of providing employee health insurance but uses the same health insurance as those who work at his company.
In the story covering separate appearances by Peters and John James on WDIV’s Flashpoint, Peters talked about the issue of him not using an ACA exchange plan and instead using the exclusive state plan not open to Michigan families.
Somehow, Peters claims there is no difference between what families go through in using a standard ACA exchange plan and the special plan he receives, showing just how out of touch a 30-year politician can be.
