Why Hasn’t Whitmer Sought FEMA Funds?

LANSING, Mich., March 25, 2020 – On Wednesday, the Detroit Free Press revealed that - while Governor Gretchen Whitmer has been a frequent critic of the Trump administration’s response to the COVID-19 crisis - Whitmer has failed to take advantage of all the federal funds available to the state. This includes a request with FEMA for a major disaster declaration, which would result in significant resources for the state. Thus far, such designations have been made in Iowa, Louisiana, New York, California, and Washington. When confronted about the glaring omission, Whitmer spokesperson Tiffany Brown stated, "This is something that we are reviewing and looking into". "We now know the shameful fact that, while Governor Whitmer has been sniping at the president as a frequent guest on national television, she has refused to take advantage of all the resources the president is offering.” said Laura Cox, Michigan Republican Party Chairman. Cox continued, “It’s time for the governor to put aside her partisanship and do what's right for the people of Michigan. Whitmer must seek FEMA assistance immediately.”   More >

Peters Stuck in Neutral

One third of Michiganders still don’t know who Senator Peters is LANSING, Mich., March 25, 2020 – New polling released today by Marketing Resource Group (MRG), a Lansing-based communications firm, has put the Michigan Senate race within single digits. According to the polling, nearly a third of Michiganders still don’t know who Michigan’s junior senator is after decades in public office. Gary Peters continues struggling to buoy his stagnant name ID. Peters currently sits at a 22% favorability rating, with a 17% unfavourability rating – and another third of voters still don’t even know who the junior senator is. John James currently holds a 20% lead over Peters in Macomb County and is within striking distance statewide. The poor numbers for Peters come after the Chuck Schumer-backed Senate Majority PAC have sank more than $5 million into TV ads to attack James with a false healthcare narrative. "It is abundantly clear that the hardworking people of Michigan see through the out-of-touch rhetoric the Democrat Party is trying to sell. After over a decade of holding public office, Michiganders still can’t identify who Gary Peters is.” said Laura Cox, Michigan Republican Party Chairman. Cox continued, “Come November, I look forward to delivering battle-tested combat veteran and businessman, John James to the U.S. Senate where he belongs.”   More >

Democrats Put Partisan Politics Ahead of Coronavirus Aid

LANSING, Mich., March 23, 2020 – As Michigan and the nation continue to face one of the worst health crises in United States history, Democrats continue to play partisan politics. CNN reported Monday that the Democrat Super PAC, Priorities USA, has launched a $6 million ad campaign attacking President Trump's response to the coronavirus pandemic. This comes on the heels of Senate Majority PAC, with ties to Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and Gary Peters, launching false attack ads on Republican senate candidate John James’ healthcare position. Amidst the coronavirus crisis Democrats - including Michigan's Gary Peters - blocked a $1.8 trillion economic stabilization package for the second time Monday afternoon, in an attempt to get unreasonable concessions like solar power tax credits and a study of global warming.  "The American people desperately need aid in these trying times, yet Democrats can’t overcome their disdain for the president and refuse to work together to solve this crisis." said Laura Cox, Michigan Republican Party Chairman. "Now is the time for results, not partisan politics. Democrats need to drop the negative ads and unrealistic policy objectives and work with Republicans to get the American people the relief they deserve." More >

Cox Statement on Peters’ Obstruction

LANSING, Mich., March 23, 2020 – The following statement is from Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox regarding Michigan Senator Gary Peters’ decision to join with Democrats for the second time in 24 hours to deny cloture on a bi-partisan COVID-19 stimulus aid package. This package would have provided Michigan families with badly needed relief during the unfolding crisis.  “Yet again, Gary Peters has chosen to put the interests of his party over the people of Michigan. Across our state, millions of Michiganders face uncertainty about their economic future. People are being laid off and small businesses face closing. This aid package addresses all those issues and more. The time for action is now and Gary Peters' obstruction must end.” More >

Whitmer’s National Audition Continues

LANSING, Mich., March 23, 2020 – On Sunday, Governor Gretchen Whitmer continued her circuit on national television, and continued to criticize the federal government instead of focusing on her home state during one of the worst health crises in Michigan’s history. Over the last few weeks, speculation has grown that Governor Whitmer is on Joe Biden’s short list for the vice presidential spot on his ticket. Whitmer, who currently serves as a Biden Campaign National Co-Chair, has undermined President Trump almost every day over the last week on national television. (ABC News, This Week) (Los Angeles Times, accessed 3-23-2020) (Fox News Channel, Fox News Sunday) “At a time when Michigan needs Gretchen Whitmer to lead, she is spending too much of her time seeking the national spotlight.” said Laura Cox, Michigan Republican Party Chairman. Cox continued, “As governor, Gretchen Whitmer needs to realize that her responsibilities are to the people of Michigan, not as a spokesperson for Joe Biden’s presidential campaign.” More >

Peters Votes Against COVID Aid Package

LANSING, Mich., March 23, 2020 – On Sunday, Michigan Senator Gary Peters joined with fellow Democrats to deny cloture on a COVID-19 stimulus aid package which would have provided Michigan families with badly needed relief during the unfolding crisis. The package would have guaranteed thousands of dollars to citizens based on income, as well as family size, to offset the recent hardships brought on by the coronavirus and distancing efforts to combat its spread. Also included in the package was an increase in unemployment benefits, offered as a compromise to Democrats. In the immediate aftermath of the filibuster, stock futures cratered falling 4%. “Tens of thousands of Michiganders now find themselves out of work due to this crisis, and while Republicans work to get them the aid they desperately need, Gary Peters and the Democrats are instead engaging in partisan posturing.” said Laura Cox, Michigan Republican Party Chairman. “The time has come for Gary Peters to stand up to his party, or stand aside and give Michigan an actual voice in the Senate.”   More >

Senator Gary Peters Praises Communist China

After China Deliberately Hid the Coronavirus, and Punished Whistleblowers – Peters Lauds the Country’s Work.  LANSING, Mich., March 20, 2020 – As the United States continues to grapple with the coronavirus that is sending shockwaves through the economy – Senator Gary Peters praised the country responsible for the spread of the COVID-19 virus due to their early lack of action. (Washington Examiner, 3/20/2020) (The Daily Caller, 3/20/2020) During the early phases of the outbreak, the Chinese Communist government sought to coverup the coronavirus from those living in the country, and other countries around the world. Whistleblowers were punished for revealing the extent of the outbreak as the virus spread to over 140 countries. “While Michiganders are fighting to stay safe, Gary Peters is praising the same country whose government cover-up and bad policies led to a worldwide pandemic.” said Laura Cox, Michigan Republican Party Chairman. Cox continued, “This is yet another example of how Gary Peters is dangerously wrong about our country’s national security.”   More >
