New Gary Peters Ad Shows The Strength Of President Trump In Michigan – And Peters’ Weakness

Peters also seeking to paper over the fact that the Michigan Farm Bureau PAC endorsed John James for U.S. Senate  In an unprecedented gambit to build a winning coalition in November, Democrat U.S. Senator Gary Peters’ newest television ad seeks to portray that he has a strong working relationship with President Donald Trump – despite the fact that Peters votes with Nancy Pelosi 95% of the time. It’s a desperate move because Peters’ campaign has repeatedly attacked John James over his willingness to work with the President on issues important to Michigan families, yet Peters is now spending big money on television to tell Michigan voters that Peters also works with the President.  Peters’ action shows the difficulties he faces in building a winning voter coalition in a state that President Trump previously won with large numbers of formerly Democrat blue-collar voters.   The ad also seeks to paint Peters as a friend of agriculture and small businesses, despite the fact that the Michigan Farm Bureau PAC endorsed John James over Peters in this year’s election.  The desperate nature of the ad is likely reflective of the fact that recent polling showed only 19% of Michigan voters felt Peters deserved reelection.  “If you were to believe Gary Peters, you’d think he has a great working relationship with President Trump and the support of Michigan farmers, yet neither is true,” said Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox. “Not only does Peters vote with Nancy Pelosi 95% of the time, but Michigan’s farmers picked John James... Cox Calls for Hoadley Appropriations Removal

On Thursday, Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox called on Representative Jon Hoadley to be removed from his position as Vice-Chair of the State House Appropriations Committee. The action comes after troubling blog posts surfaced last week in which Hoadley spoke about hardcore drug usage, disparaging women and children, and called his past sexual partners "victims". "Jon Hoadley's blog posts are incredibly disturbing. A person who holds women, children, and the laws of Michigan in such contempt should have no place in deciding how the state of Michigan spends its money," said Laura Cox, Michigan Republican Party Chairman. "Jon Hoadley might think it's funny to blog about assault, but as a former Chairman of the House Apportions committee and an author of abuse legislation, I cannot stand back and watch the people of our state become his next 'victims'. I call on Representative Hoadley to be removed from his post as a committee Vice Chairman immediately." Cox previously served as the first female Chairman of the House Apportions Committee during her time in the state legislature and has been a lifelong advocate for women, children, and victims of abuse having drafted legislation which allowed past crime testimony to be used in sexual assault cases.   More >

Peters Pandemic Failures: Peters Said Borders Must Be Secured To Limit COVID Spread. Then He Left The Country For A Reelection Fundraiser…

As the coronavirus pandemic unfolded in America and across the world in February, U.S. Senator Gary Peters repeatedly sounded the alarm about international travel across our borders in order to protect the country against COVID-19. What did he do next? Peters jumped on an airplane and flew out of the country to collect campaign cash for his own benefit, putting Michigan residents at risk of accelerated spread. On February 12th, Peters said the U.S. faced a low risk, but quickly he changed his tune. On February 25th, Peters told WZZM that to stop the spread of COVID-19, “Right now we’re focusing on keeping our borders as secure as possible. We need to provide a second layer of defense at our border.” Peters went on to say that, “it is important to identify those folks who may not have symptoms. But still we need to be concerned and make sure they are separated from the general population until we can be sure they haven’t been infected." Going even further in his concern about the coronavirus crossing U.S. borders, on February 28th Peters issued a press release questioning the best ways for the federal government to return sickened U.S. passengers who were stranded on a cruise ship in the Pacific Ocean. Yet Peters jumped on a plane during the exact same time frame, leaving the U.S. and flying to London, England for the sole purpose of grabbing more cash for his reelection campaign at a fundraiser there, also on February 28th. Peters refused to comment about the wisdom of... More >

Peters’ Pandemic Failures: Under His Watch, Audit Found Homeland Security Unprepared For A Pandemic

U.S. Senator Gary Peters loves to talk about being the Ranking Member on the Senate Homeland Security Committee. However, under his watch, a departmental audit said that the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) was not ready for a pandemic. Peters had been on the important oversight committee for nearly two years when the DHS Office of Inspector General (OIG) issued the scathing report in October 2016 during President Obama’s tenure, which found that “Pandemic Planning Needs Better Oversight, Training, and Execution.” The review was done to ensure key U.S. agencies located in DHS could function in the face of a global pandemic, like the coronavirus we face today. Among many disturbing findings, the OIG said: “ICE, U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), and the Secret Service either could not identify their pandemic PPE stockpile or were unaware of whether local offices had pandemic PPE available on site.” “…the Coast Guard, ICE, and the Secret Service — did not determine their pandemic PPE requirements.” Senior DHA officials never gave final approval to Pandemic Workforce Protection Plans (PWPP) for key agencies, including: FEMA TSA U.S. Secret Service Customs and Border Protection U.S. Coast Guard Immigration and Customs Enforcement  “For about a year, it was unclear which office, if any, was responsible for conducting PWPP oversight.” “The Department did not develop clear requirements for pandemic readiness training.” “The Department did not establish sufficient oversight or provide clear instruction on the number of days for which components should maintain a supply of PPE for... Governor Whitmer Loses The Veepstakes

After months of cable TV and magazine cover auditions, Gretchen Whitmer loses out on VP spot on Biden’s ticket. Since early spring, Gretchen Whitmer has done countless late-night comedy shows, cable TV appearances, and magazine profiles in her quest to become Joe Biden’s Vice Presidential nominee. Today, she lost the Veepstakes to Kamala Harris. Since endorsing Biden in the spring, Michigan took a backseat to Whitmer’s political ambitions. In true Democrat fashion, Gretchen Whitmer never let a crisis go to waste using her countless auditions to trash the president and the federal government during the coronavirus outbreak. Despite nursing homes being overrun by COVID-19, a broken unemployment system and vast executive overreach, Whitmer’s attention was fixed solely on the office she wanted, not the office she had. “Governor Whitmer’s Veepstakes loss is confirmation of what every Michigander already knew: Gretchen Whitmer just isn’t ready for the big leagues,” said Laura Cox, Michigan Republican Party Chairman. “The pick of Kamala Harris confirms how radical the Democrat Party has become. Her addition to the ticket brings support for the Green New Deal, abolishing private health insurance, raising taxes, cutting police funding and devastation for Michigan’s economy. I am more confident than ever that we will re-elect President Trump and Vice President Pence this November.” More >

Say What!? Peters Originally Praised China’s Response To Coronavirus

Gary Peters, who claims to be holding China accountable for pandemic failures, was impressed by China’s COVID-19 response and said the U.S. faced “low risk” After repeatedly praising China at the start of the global coronavirus pandemic, U.S. Senator Gary Peters probably wishes he could have his words back. Peters, the highest-ranking Democrat on the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, said in an appearance on Fox News on February 12th that, “Certainly, the Chinese government has instituted some very, very aggressive actions…” Peters also went on to say that, “the risk right now to the United States is very low...” Later, on a March 20th Morning Joe interview, Peters continued his praise of China and its economy, saying, “We’ve gotta be doing that same kind of thing here.”  Peters spent heavily on television ads saying he has held China accountable for questionable economic activities that put Michigan’s economy at risk. The truth is Peters skipped 89% of China accountability committee hearings in Congress and skipped 84% of small business committee hearings, failing to protect Michigan workers. And, as China failed to contain the original coronavirus pandemic, Peters offered praise while telling Americans our risk of an epidemic was minimal.   “Michigan deserves a U.S. Senator like John James, who has the military and business training to know how to respond a crisis and would not downplay an emerging threat for fear of criticizing China,” said Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox. “Gary Peters either downplayed the coming coronavirus crisis on purpose or was... MRP Statement on Whitmer Medical Liability Veto

The following statement is from Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox regarding Governor Gretchen Whitmer’s decision to veto a bill which would increase liability protections for health care workers and facilities during the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.  “During this crisis, Michigan’s doctors, nurses, and hospitals need to be focused on patient care, not on the risk of frivolous lawsuits. Today, Governor Whitmer chose to stand with the bigtime trial lawyers who funded her campaign, rather than with the frontline heroes who are working to keep our healthcare system operating during this pandemic.” More >

Governor Whitmer’s Hypocrisy Runs Deep

Over the weekend, President Trump took executive action to ease the lives of many Michiganders still suffering the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. In true partisan fashion, Governor Whitmer criticized President Trump’s actions, stating that the president must instead “work together with Congress.” The hypocrisy of such a statement coming from a governor who has signed over 100 executive orders, and who has indefinitely extended her emergency powers was not lost on Michigan Republican Party Chairwoman Laura Cox. “Like with most issues, if Gretchen Whitmer didn’t have double standards, she would have no standards at all,” said Cox. “The governor has no room to criticize executive action when she has burned every possible bridge with the state legislature. Instead of working to ease the burden for many Michiganders, Gretchen Whitmer decided to further sow the partisan divide.” The President’s Executive Orders seek to provide relief to those struggling until Congress can reach a deal on their next COVID-19 package, something Whitmer wrote off as “doing nothing” for unemployed Americans. Peters Dragging His Feet On Annual Fiscal Disclosure

Report will show if Peters is still feels the ACA is not good enough for his family but is good enough for everyone else U.S. Senator Gary Peters is dragging his feet on filing his 2019 annual financial disclosure report, despite being up for reelection. Or, is it because he is up for reelection? Peters’ upcoming report is important because it will reveal if Peters still benefits from an exclusive, gold-plated private health insurance plan not available to the public. Peters recently came under fire by opponent John James for previously refusing to use an ACA exchange health care plan. Peters never publicly stated that he rejected the ACA for his own family while he based his campaign on the issue. But, it was recently uncovered in previous Congressional disclosure reports, forcing him to admit that has been the case in previous years. The new 2019 annual report was originally due to the U.S. Senate on May 15th, which would have allowed voters plenty of time to review Peters financial interests as they considered their pick for Senate. Due to the COVID-19 crisis an option was provided to request a filing extension of 90-days, to August 13th (this Thursday). Peters requested the extension on April 16th.  However, in a letter to Peters on April 16th, the Senate Select Committee on Ethics wrote that, “Filers are, of course, welcome to submit their Annual Reports for CY 2019 at any time before the August 13th deadline.” Peters, despite being up for reelection, still has not filed the... Detroit News Confirms: Gary Peters Refuses To Use Obamacare For HIS Family

Peters is living in a different world than John James after building a government-subsidized lifestyle of multiple paychecks, exclusive health insurance and travel. He doesn’t even show up for work! U.S. Senator Gary Peters never before voluntarily told voters that he refuses to use an Obamacare insurance plan for his own family, even as he tries to make the ACA a key part of his reelection campaign. But today’s Detroit News confirms that Peters instead uses an exclusive State of Michigan health insurance plan that Michigan residents can’t get: “James criticized Peters, a former state lawmaker and lottery commissioner, for having "a gold-plated" health care plan from his time as a state officeholder while regular people's health care costs have increased. A financial disclosure for 2018 showed Peters was participating in the "Michigan Legislative Retirement Health Program.” Peters does not show up for work, but he has carefully crafted a government-subsidized Peters Relief Plan that includes: Collecting a $174,000 U.S. Senate paycheck. Banking a $50,000/year state pension. Using a gold-plated, subsidized state-provided healthcare plan that allows him to avoid ACA exchange plans Michigan families use. Taking free, government-funded travel to exotic locations around the globe. Skipping most meetings of three key economic committees in Congress and now Michigan job creators are suffering. “John James not only understands the pressures of providing health care to Michigan workers but he uses the same health insurance his employees do,” said Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox. “Meanwhile, Gary Peters bases his campaign on the ACA but his family...
