Benson Snubs State House Hearing

LANSING, Mich., December 16, 2020 – After weeks of investigations produced significant evidence of election irregularities, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson refused to testify before the House Oversight Committee, further cementing our election’s lack of transparency. In a letter issued Tuesday, Secretary of State Jocelyn Benson said she refused to testify before the House Oversight Committee, which has been investigating the rampant election irregularities that took place during the November 2020 election. According to the Detroit News, Benson claimed “the GOP-controlled panel was ‘amplifying already debunked conspiracy theories’”, despite the fact that her own office agreed to audit the election results based on the numerous election irregularities. “Jocelyn Benson has proven yet again that she is incapable of putting aside her partisanship in order to do her job and answer for the unacceptable levels of election irregularities experienced this November.” said Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox. Cox continued, “Benson’s testimony is a vital piece of evidence in these investigations, and her attempts to sidestep this responsibility is another example of her disregard for the people’s elected representatives. I call on Secretary Benson to reverse course and give the people of Michigan the election transparency they deserve.” More >

Cox Statement On Reported Jennifer Granholm Appointment

LANSING, Mich., December 15, 2020 – The following statement is from Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox, regarding the reports that former Michigan Governor Jennifer Granholm will be tapped by Joe Biden to serve as Energy Secretary in a potential Biden Administration. “Jennifer Granholm’s tenure as Governor of Michigan was a disaster for the people of our state, and I have no doubt that her lack of executive ability would make her a terrible Energy Secretary. The fact that Joe Biden would pick for his potential cabinet, an individual who was responsible for Michigan’s lost decade, which saw jobs and a generation of young Michiganders exit our state, is an insult. When Jennifer Granholm was Governor, people joked that the last one out of Michigan should turn out the lights. Now, Joe Biden wants to give the worst Governor in Michigan’s history the power to leave our nation in the dark.” More >

The first vaccinations were administered Monday morning to front line workers across America. “The distribution of the Pfizer vaccine across America is an unprecedented and historic moment for our nation, thanks to the leadership of President Trump and Operation Warp Speed.” said Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox. Whitmer Continues Failed School Closure Policy

LANSING, Mich., December 11, 2020 – Despite mounting evidence from domestic and international medical experts refuting COVID related school closures, Governor Gretchen Whitmer and her administration continue to impose their failed closure policies across Michigan. In late November, Fox News reported that Dr. Fauci believed we should “keep the children in school and get them back to school.”, with the article saying he noted, “that the spread of COVID-19 between children was ‘low,’ especially compared to other areas.”. This science has been backed up by international studies as well, with the German Department of Labor releasing a report which saw no increased rates of infections amongst children in Germany and other European nations. “Governor Whitmer has made a habit of implementing policies that run contrary to what the experts are saying, and her school closure policies are no exception.” said Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox. Cox continued, “The science shows her school closure policies could do immeasurable damage to children’s developmental and emotional health. The Michigan Republican Party continues to call on Governor Whitmer to listen to the experts and allow our kids to go back to school before the damage is irreversible.” More >

Cox Statement On Governor Whitmer Skirting Johnson Comments

LANSING, Mich., December 10, 2020 – The following statement is from Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox, regarding Governor Whitmer’s failure to condemn harmful comments made by Representative Cynthia A. Johnson. “I am disappointed that Governor Whitmer did not have the courage to come out and condemn Representative Johnson for her comments inciting violence, when asked about them in today’s COVID press conference. Instead of making excuses for Representative Johnson, the Governor should join the bipartisan voices, including Attorney General Dana Nessel, in denouncing Representative Johnson for making clear threats of violence towards political opponents. This behavior has no place in our society.” More >

Cox Statement On Autism Advocate Xavier DeGroat

LANSING, Mich., December 10, 2020 – The following statement is from Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox, regarding autism advocate Xavier DeGroat completing his White House internship. “At a time when Democrats and Republicans struggle to find areas of agreement, I am proud to say that Xavier DeGroat and the completion of his internship at the White House is something we can all celebrate. Xavier is an exceptional young man who also happens to be autistic, making him the first autistic White House interns in history. Xavier has led an incredible life thus far, through his foundation he has advocated for autistic people, breaking down barriers and pioneering new opportunities. I am incredibly proud of his work and accomplishments, and I hope leaders on both sides of the aisle will join me in congratulating Xavier on his successful internship at the White House.” More >

Whitmer Silent On Johnson Inciting Violence

LANSING, Mich., December 10, 2020 – While voices from across the aisle have come out and condemned Representative Cynthia A. Johnson for inciting violence against supporters of President Trump, Governor Gretchen Whitmer has remained silent. Earlier this week, Representative Cynthia A. Johnson posted a video on Facebook, where she called on her “soldiers” to make supporters of President Trump “pay”. The bipartisan backlash has been telling, with Democrat Attorney General Dana Nessel calling Johnson’s comments “unacceptable”, saying she “strongly” condemns them. Governor Whitmer thus far, however, has not come out to join the growing number of voices denouncing Johnson. “Gretchen Whitmer’s silence on this matter is a deafening reminder of her hyper-partisanship. Instead of standing by Representative Johnson’s comments, she should be joining the growing bipartisan voices decrying them, just as Republicans have denounced threats against Democrats.” said Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox. Cox continued, “I am calling on Governor Whitmer to come out strongly against Representative Johnson’s comments which incite violence. As she well knows, there is no place in a civilized society for violence against your political opponents.” More >

Nessel Condemns "Merry Christmas"

LANSING, Mich., December 9, 2020 – As President Trump wishes Americans holiday greetings, Attorney General Dana Nessel took to Twitter to condemn wishing others a “Merry Christmas”. Nessel contextualized this criticism with a story about a store clerk who politely wished her and her family “Merry Christmas”, which she took as a personal offense. In the since-deleted tweet, she absurdly claimed that wishing “Merry Christmas” to those who don’t celebrate it indirectly accuses that them of being un-American. “This is yet another example of Dana Nessel saying outrageous things to drum up her own publicity for Joe Biden and the national media.” said Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox. Cox continued, “Not only is President Trump aware of our great nation’s diversity, his daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren are Jewish and the first Jewish members of a First Family. I hope that Dana Nessel can embrace the spirit of the season and put away the partisanship and religious intolerance she displayed on Twitter.” This is not the first time Dana Nessel has shown her religious intolerance, back in 2019 Nessel was criticized for attacking Catholics and making offensive jokes about the Rosary.
