In addition, Whitmer used her line-item veto power to cut 147 items from the budget. It’s even been reported that Whitmer was so zealous with her line-item veto that she accidently cut funding from both the school aid and Health and Human Service budgets, requiring the legislature to fix her mistakes and restore the funding. “Tonight, Governor Whitmer showed that she is willing to use the people of Michigan as pawns in her fight for higher taxes and bigger government. Whitmer governs with such reckless abandon that she needed a ‘do over’ after cutting critical funding for education and health services by mistake.  Gas Tax Gretchen is clearly more interested in raising taxes than fixing a single mile of our state’s crumbling roads, and she’s willing to throw the people of Michigan under the bus to get her way.”   More >

Slotkin and Stevens Cave to Radical Extremist Demands LANSING, Mich., September 24, 2019 – The following statement is from Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox regarding today’s announcement by Democrat Representatives Elissa Slotkin (MI-08) and Haley Stevens (MI-11) that they plan to back impeachment inquiries into President Trump. The President carried both districts in 2016.  "Today, Elissa Slotkin and Haley Stevens decided to join with Rashida Tlaib, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the most radical members of their party by jumping on the impeachment bandwagon. For nearly three years, Democrats and their allies in the media have conducted a witch-hunt against President Trump in an attempt to undo the results of the 2016 election. Time and time again their accusations have been proven false, and I find it shameful that Slotkin and Stevens have chosen to put their political ambitions ahead of the real issues facing their constituents." Trump from 2017 to 2019. A trusted confidante of the President, Sanders advised him on everything from press and communications strategy to personnel and policy. Sanders is only the third woman – and the very first mom – to ever hold the job of White House Press Secretary.   Sanders joined the Trump campaign as a senior advisor in February 2016 during the Republican primary, and continued in that role through the President’s defeat of Hillary Clinton, one of the greatest and most unexpected victories in American history.   Sanders has previously worked in leadership roles for U.S. Senators, Governors, and presidential campaigns. She was a senior... Cox Statement on Whitmer Walkout

LANSING, Mich., September 12, 2019 – The following statement is from Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox regarding Governor Whitmer’s decision to walk away from state budget negotiations.   “Yet again Governor Whitmer has shown that it’s her way or no highways. Republicans have proposed a budget which will add millions in new road funding without raising taxes. However, Gas Tax Gretchen is refusing to sign a budget that spends ANY money on roads because it means she won’t get her ridiculous highest in the nation 45-cent gas tax increase. Clearly Whitmer cares more about taking Michiganders hard-earned money than she does fixing a single mile of our states ‘damn roads’.”  More >
