More Bad Behavior from Michigan Democrats

Will Whitmer and Stabenow call out their own?

LANSING, Mich., November 21, 2017 – Late Monday evening, BuzzFeed News reported shocking revelations alleging that, in 2014, Congressman John Conyers (D-MI) fired a female employee for refusing his sexual advances and was forced to pay the woman a $27,000 taxpayer funded settlement to cover up his misdeeds. The report also alleges that Conyers sexual misbehavior extended beyond this case, with frequent harassment of other women. Conyers further misused his office by having taxpayer paid staffers pick up and deliver women to his personal residence and hotel rooms to engage in sexual activities.

Michigan Republican Party Chief of Staff Colleen Pero said, “I am sickened by the revelations about Congressman John Conyers’ abuse of power.  For over 50 years, the voters of Detroit have placed their trust in him, and he has repaid that trust with repeated allegations of corruption and the revelation that he used $27,000 of their taxes to cover up his sexual misconduct.”

The Conyers allegations are the newest in a long line of allegations of sexual misconduct in Washington.

Pero asked “where are the Democrats in calling out their own bad players?  Whether it is Virgil Smith, Brian Banks, Burt Johnson, or now, John Conyers, Michigan Democrats like Gretchen Whitmer and Debbie Stabenow owe it to Michiganders to denounce their fellow Michigan Democrats’ bad behavior.  Enough is enough.  Stand up for what is right, or get out of the way.”

Conyers and his family are no strangers to charges of corruption. In 2006 Conyers admitted that he used his staff for personal services such a babysitting his children and in 2010 Conyers’ wife, Detroit City Councilwoman Monica Conyers was found guilty of accepting bribes in order to get passage of city contracts.
