DETROIT, Mich., Feb. 23, 2016 – Last night, the Michigan Republican Party hosted their 4th Annual Black History Month Awards and Banquet Ceremony at the St. Regis Hotel in Detroit. The event featured keynote speaker Gianno Caldwell, President and Founder of Caldwell Strategic Consulting.
“We join the nation in celebrating Black History Month, honoring the contributions African Americans have made to our state and our country,” said Michigan Republican Party Chairman Ron Weiser. “We celebrate as not only a salute to the past, but as a bridge to the future. The Republican Party has more work to do in engaging African American voters, and I am happy to honor those who have worked to that end.”
The event honored Sonjalita Hulbert, the recipient of the Grassroots Leadership Award, Donald Snider, the recipient of the Community Leadership Award, Pastor Ken Hampton, the recipient of Faith in Leadership award, as well as a posthumous Lifetime Achievement Award for the late Paul Welday.
“Our Party believes in hope and opportunity for all,” Weiser continued. “The Michigan Republican Party has had a year-round office in Detroit for more than 3 years in hopes of keeping an open line of communication with the voters of Detroit. We will continue to engage African Americans in a dialogue about how we can better work together, and how we can continue to grow Republican presence in areas that typically have not supported our candidates.”
