MRP Chairman Statement on Justice Bob Young's Withdrawal from US Senate Race

LANSING, Mich., Jan. 3, 2018 – Michigan Republican Party Chairman Ron Weiser released the following statement regarding Justice Bob Young’s withdrawal from the US Senate Race:

“I am thankful to Justice Young for his dedicated service to our state. I have known Bob for years, serving as Chair for his first Supreme Court campaign.  Bob knows Michigan, has been elected 3 times statewide, and will continue to be a tremendous asset to the Party.  Despite not running for office himself, Bob has assured me that he will be actively involved in the 2018 elections.  He is a principled conservative, our Party is lucky to have him, and I look forward to working with him.  I am thankful for his leadership, and proud to call him a friend.”

US Senate Passes GOP Tax Reform

LANSING, Mich., December 2, 2017 – Early Saturday morning, the United States Senate passed a sweeping overhaul of the federal Tax code, reforms which will put thousands of dollars back in the pockets of middle class families and help to make American manufacturers, farmers, and small business more competitive around the world.  The legislation passed on 51-49 vote, with Democrats all voting against the tax relief package.

“This morning’s vote is a victory for the American middle class who are about to see their pay checks get bigger,” said Michigan Republican Party Chairman Ron Weiser.  He continued, “for too long, our overly complicated tax system has burdened American families with a mountain of confusing forms and paper work. It’s crippled American small businesses with the highest corporate rate in the industrialized world. With this vote the Senate has removed barriers that are holding back the American economy, and taken a major step to help create a fair and simple tax code.  I applaud our Republican leaders in Washington for taking this historic step.”

The tax reform package will now advance to a joint Congressional committee where differences between the House and Senate tax reform versions will be reconciled before coming up for a final vote in both houses before the end of the year.
