LANSING, Mich., December 3, 2020 – As experts around the nation have begun to admit their mistakes in calling for school closures, Governor Whitmer’s administration is choosing to ignore the science and insist on the continued closure of Michigan schools.
In a Michigan Senate hearing this morning, Michigan Department of Health and Human Services Director Robert Gordon insisted they had evidence backing the continued closure of Michigan schools. This comes the same week that Dr. Fauci said that we should “keep the children in school and get them back to school.”. Fox News reported that Dr. Fauci also “noted that the spread of COVID-19 between children was ‘low,’ especially compared to other areas.”.
“Governor Whitmer’s continued insistence that we keep our children out of school, despite the science showing the detrimental effects of this policy, is unconscionable.” said Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox. Cox continued, “From putting COVID positive patients into nursing homes to closing Michigan schools, Governor Whitmer’s track record of ignoring the science and doubling down on failed policies is an embarrassment to the state and Michiganders are suffering as a result.”

“I was so proud to host today’s legal briefing with Mayor Rudy Giuliani, to give our grassroots activists an update on the election irregularities we have experienced in Michigan. From the minute we learned about these irregularities, the Michigan Republican Party jumped into action to ensure we collected all the evidence and fought any and all efforts to eliminate transparency from our elections. I look forward to hearing Mayor Giuliani’s testimony in our legislature this evening.”
LANSING, Mich., December 1, 2020 – The following statement is from Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox, regarding today’s Michigan Senate hearing on the integrity of our elections.
“I applaud the Michigan Senate for taking up such an important issue in today’s hearing. These hearings will continue to expose the unprecedented amount of irregularities that Michigan experienced in this election. As we learn the truth of what happened on Election Day and the days following, I call on all of our leaders to take steps to ensure that these embarrassing abuses never happen again.”
LANSING, Mich., December 1, 2020 – After Governor Whitmer issued another shutdown which barred restaurants from having dine-in service, the industry is fighting back, arguing her crippling order is unconstitutional.
In a court hearing yesterday, lawyers representing multiple restaurant associations argued that Governor Whitmer’s ban on dine-in service was unconstitutional. According to MLive, the specific area of concern comes from the statute “MCL 333.2253, which allows the MDHHS director to ‘prohibit the gathering of people for any purpose’ during an epidemic.” Restaurants are arguing this law to be unconstitutional.
“Governor Whitmer has single handedly destroyed hundreds of small businesses and thousands of jobs with her administrations unconstitutional orders.” said Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox. Cox continued, “Whitmer continues to shut out the people’s elected representatives in the legislature, refusing to come up with a plan that protects the lives of Michiganders without destroying their livelihoods. The Michigan Republican Party stands with restaurants and all businesses as they fight to survive Whitmer’s disastrous orders.”
LANSING, Mich., November 30, 2020 – Despite years of criticism for her handling of foreign policy matters, Congresswoman Elissa Slotkin is now reportedly being considered for Director of the CIA in a Joe Biden Administration, according to the Detroit Free Press.
Her consideration comes despite the fact that Slotkin has previously received immense scrutiny for her handling of American foreign policy, especially on matters in the Middle East. Slotkin received severe criticism from the late Senator John McCain, who said to her during a Senate Armed Services Committee hearing, “Ms. Slotkin, you either don't know the truth or you are not telling the truth to this committee,”, ending his remarks adding “I do not believe she is qualified.” and that, “she can’t articulate a strategy for the defeat of ISIS,”.
“From her support of the failed Iran Nuclear Deal to her inability to articulate any plans to fight America’s adversaries, Congresswoman Slotkin has proven time and again how grossly unqualified she is to handle foreign policy matters.” said Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox. Cox continued, “It comes as no surprise that Joe Biden would consider someone this incompetent for his CIA Director, but I hope for the sake of the American people he has the wherewithal to pass on what would be a disastrous appointment.”
LANSING, Mich., November 29, 2020 – The following statement is from Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox, regarding the passing of Former Senator Tom Casperson.
“I am incredibly saddened to hear about the passing of my friend, Senator Tom Casperson, after his long battle with cancer. I had the distinct pleasure of serving with him in the legislature, and I was always inspired by his commitment to our shared values and to the people of Michigan. Tom Casperson will be remembered for his dedicated service to the Upper Peninsula, and he will stand as an example for future generations of public servants looking to better their communities. On behalf of all Michigan Republicans, I want to send our most heartfelt condolences to Senator Casperson’s family and friends.”
LANSING, Mich., November 24, 2020 – The following statement is from Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox, regarding John James’ announcement that he has conceded the race for the United States Senate.
“John James’ life of service sacrifice and selflessness has inspired millions of Michiganders. His record as a military veteran and business leader makes him the type of person Michigan needs fighting for us. I want to congratulate my friend John on an extraordinarily hard-fought campaign. John has cemented himself as an all-star in the Republican Party, and I know I speak for all Republicans when I say we cannot wait to see what’s next for John James.”
LANSING, Mich., November 24, 2020 – After Joe Biden announced his intent to nominate a Jewish candidate, Antony Blinken, as his Secretary of State, Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib’s response led many to accuse her of anti-Semitism.
Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib reacted to the announcement of Joe Biden’s intention to nominate a Jewish Secretary of State candidate saying, "So long as he doesn't suppress my First Amendment right to speak out against Netanyahu's racist and inhumane policies. The Palestinian people deserve equality and justice,". According to Fox News, her comments were met with outrage from members of the Jewish community, with the founder of Americans Against Anti-Semitism, Dov Hikind, stating “Biden names a Jew to his cabinet. What’s Rashida’s response?! 'Welp, as long as that Judische pick doesn’t stop me from focusing my hatred on one country, Israel, then he’s a good Jew!'”.
“Yet again, Michiganders are embarrassed by Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib, who does not even attempt to veil her anti-Semitic attacks against the Jewish people.” said Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox. Cox continued, “Anti-Semitism has no place in our state or country, and I call on all Democrats to condemn Tlaib’s blatantly anti-Semitic comments, and for Tlaib to apologize immediately.”
LANSING, Mich., November 23, 2020 – The following remarks were delivered by Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox at today’s State Board of Canvassers meeting.
“I am asking you to consider delaying certification. There are too many questions that need to be answered regarding this election. Too many numerical anomalies and credible reports of procedural irregularities. We need to remove the distrust and sense of procedural disenfranchisement felt by many Michigan voters in place. This vote will be certified, and the will of the people will be upheld. But we need to ensure there is a fair and accurate vote count first.
This election had its issues. At every step this election process has been stacked against Republicans. Starting with the challenger process.
Every election, the Michigan Republican Party chair signs credentials for thousands of Republicans who volunteer to observe and challenge the election counting process to uphold the integrity of the vote. This year, I was honored to perform that duty and thousands showed up across the state.
The majority of election officials treated all challengers regardless of party with dignity and respect and let them participate meaningfully in the process. One location and one jurisdiction stood out above others as being inhospitable and hostile to Republican challenges—the TCF Center.
From the moment issues started until today, the reaction from the Secretary of State, the Attorney General, and partisan Democrats has been antagonistic, belligerent and disrespectful. I appreciate the hard work of election officials but I also will not let Republican challengers be disrespected and shut out of the process.
And last week, the Wayne County Board of canvassers noticed significant problems with the election counting process across the county. When the Republican canvassers asked the state to take a little more time to investigate, they were treated again with hostility and intimidation. But rather than treat these threats seriously, many Democrat elected officials looked to further intimidate and threaten these officials.
This is why I implored this board of canvassers to provide a meaningful review of Wayne County.
In the future, I would ask this board to do three things.
First, please use your platform to ensure that all challengers and participants in the election process are treated equally regardless of party.
Second, please use your platform to end the threats and intimidation to Republicans and all parties. All deserve to have an election with integrity where every legal vote counts.
Third, please demand more from the election counting process so all questions can be answered to ensure a fair and accurate vote. I ask you to do that today.
I will continue to stand up for Republicans and demand that their rights are respected. Thank you, Chairman.”
LANSING, Mich., November 23, 2020 – Democrats have spent the better part of the month criticizing Republicans for exposing the unacceptably high level of election irregularities in Detroit, despite the fact that earlier this year, they too voiced the same concerns.
According to the Detroit News, back in August “All four members of the State Board of Canvassers… blasted problems with counting ballots in Detroit's primary election as ‘alarming’ and ‘concerning’,". The article went on to highlight comments from Democrat canvassers stating, “Board Chairwoman Jeannette Bradshaw, a Democrat, added the situation was ‘very alarming’ and ‘disheartening’”, and quoted Julie Matuzak, a Democratic board member, as saying “I find this whole thing appalling”.
“While Republicans have fought expose the truth of what has happened in Detroit during the election and the days that followed, the Democrats have cowered away from their duty to stand up for the integrity of our elections.” said Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox. Cox continued, “The Michigan Republican Party will continue to stand strong in our fight to uncover the truth and restore dignity and trust in our elections here in Michigan.”
