While other senators negotiated and worked towards compromise, Michigan’s Gary Peters dug his heels in and the results have been devastating for Michigan. A recent report in The Detroit News shows that Michigan ranks near the bottom in CARES Act funding, the $150 billion-dollar aid package Congress passed in March - which Peters repeatedly blocked before its final passage.
While Michigan is set to receive $3.9 billion, the funding is considered “relatively little” in comparison to the number of COVID-19 cases the state has, and comes despite Peters’ multiple claims that he negotiated and secured additional funding in the package for Michigan.
“Just like the USMCA or the Paycheck Protection Program, Gary Peters feels the need to toe the Democrat Party line instead of standing up for the people he is elected to serve.” said Laura Cox, Michigan Republican Party Chairman. “Yet again ,Gary Peters failed to deliver for our state, and millions of Michiganders will pay the price. This November, I look forward to delivering a new Senator to Washington who will get the job done and put the people of our state above politics.”
