As President Trump announced a national state emergency for the COVID-19 Coronavirus, Senator Gary Peters and Minority Leader Chuck Schumer continue to play politics with a pandemic that’s rippling across the state of Michigan.
In a Talking Points Memo article released this morning, Peters attempted to pivot away from his connection to Senate Majority PAC’s false TV ads that are exploiting the fears of millions of Michiganders. The TV ads, funded by Chuck Schumer’s leadership PAC, deliberately mislead the public on U.S. Senate candidate John James record on healthcare.
Today, Peters attacked Senate Homeland Security Committee Chairman Ron Johnson, sighting the same exploitation tactics Michigan’s freshman senator had used. Peters criticized Johnson for pursuing an unrelated subpoena of Blue Star, the DC lobbying firm connected to Ukrainian gas and oil firm, Burisma.
Friday morning, Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox called on the Senators to remove the dishonest TV ads, that seek to deploy fear tactics during a global pandemic. James has previously stated that he has always supported protecting the health care of people with pre-existing conditions.
“Now that the pressure is on Gary Peters to explain why he is using this pandemic to stoke the fears of millions of Michiganders, he instead chooses to deflect.” said Michigan Republican Party Chairman, Laura Cox. Cox continued, “Instead of doing his job and protecting the public, Peters set his sights on securing his reelection based on a pack of lies he knows are just that. If Gary Peters were a true leader for Michigan, he would request that his Minority Leader immediately have the ads taken down.”
