Are You Going To Kill 182,000 Michigan Jobs Along With Joe Biden?!
LANSING, Mich., October 23, 2020 – Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox today challenged U.S. Senator Gary Peters to disavow Joe Biden’s plan to end 180,000 Michigan jobs in the natural gas and oil industry.
During last night’s presidential debate, President Donald Trump asked Biden if he would “close down the oil industry.”
Shockingly, Biden said, “I would transition from the oil industry, yes.”
Industry estimates say that Biden’s plan would likely eliminate a whopping 182,000 Michigan jobs (direct, indirect and induced). These jobs would make a $15.8 BILLION contribution to our economy.
Peters already has a track record of being afraid to stand up to the radical progressive energy agenda. When given the chance to say no the Green New Deal, Peters weakly voted “present” last year.
In March 2019, Peters Voted “Present” On A Motion To Invoke Cloture On The Motion To Proceed To S.J. Res. 8. The Resolution, Sponsored By Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), Was Identical To The Green New Deal Resolution Introduced By Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY). (S.J. Res. 8, Roll Call Vote #52: Cloture Motion Rejected, 0-57-43; R 0-53-0, D 0-3-42, I 0-1-1; 3/26/19, Peters Voted Present)
“Gary Peters votes with his party in lockstep and his party, starting with Joe Biden, is completely beholden to a radical, progressive energy agenda that will cost Michigan families more, starting with their jobs,” said Cox. “Gary Peters didn’t stand up for Michigan against the Green New Deal and he won’t stand up against job-killing plans like Biden’s in the Senate. Gary Peters will cost Michigan.”
