Whitmer Cuts Funding for the “Damn Roads”
LANSING, Mich., September 30, 2019 – The following statement is from Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox regarding Governor Whitmer’s $375 million in road funding cuts from the 2019-20 state budget. In addition, Whitmer used her line-item veto power to cut 147 items from the budget. It’s even been reported that Whitmer was so zealous with her line-item veto that she accidently cut funding from both the school aid and Health and Human Service budgets, requiring the legislature to fix her mistakes and restore the funding.
“Tonight, Governor Whitmer showed that she is willing to use the people of Michigan as pawns in her fight for higher taxes and bigger government. Whitmer governs with such reckless abandon that she needed a ‘do over’ after cutting critical funding for education and health services by mistake. Gas Tax Gretchen is clearly more interested in raising taxes than fixing a single mile of our state’s crumbling roads, and she’s willing to throw the people of Michigan under the bus to get her way.”
