Less than 24 Hours After Biden Says Her VP Hopes Are Still Alive Times Publishes Whitmer Op-Ed
Just 24 hours after presumptive Democrat Nominee Joe Biden told WOOD-TV that he was still considering Governor Gretchen Whitmer to be his running mate, the New York Times published an op-ed by Whitmer, who is still running for a position on the Biden ticket.
Since Vice Presidential speculation started in March, Whitmer has appeared in national media more than 50 times, including making the rounds on cable news, late-night television, and in fashion magazines.
Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox has repeatedly called on the governor to withdraw her name from consideration and focus on the state's ongoing COVID-19 crisis. Despite these pleas, and claims by Whitmer that she does not want the job, Whitmer admitted in May that she is being vetted by the Biden campaign for the position.
"It's ridiculous that while thousands of Michiganders are unable to receive their unemployment benefits due to the governor's broken unemployment system, Gretchen Whitmer continues to peruse a new job of her own," said Laura Cox, Michigan Republican Party Chairman. Cox continued, "Over the past four months, Michigan has faced an unprecedented crisis and instead of working with Republicans to solve it, the governor has instead chosen to raise her national profile, and play politics with everything from COVID tracing calls to protests. The only things Whitmer brings to the Democrat ticket are broken promises and a blue suit.”
