Who Said It Better?

Sanders, Peters vow to throw support behind “whoever”

Who should be the Democrats’ nominee for President? Sen. Gary Peters and his pal Sen. Bernie Sanders’ response: Whoever, doesn’t matter.

In an interview with Rachel Maddow on MSNBC, Sanders stated “If Biden walks into the convention, or at the end of the process, has more votes than me, he’s the winner.” Likewise, Peters told the Washington Post “I’m supporting whoever the Democratic candidate for president is,” in attempt to skirt the topic.

Peters’ non-answer is a desperate attempt to cover his tracks. Both Peters’ failure to stand up to party leadership to protect Michigan, and his willingness to follow suit with an outspoken socialist like Sanders should alarm voters. Peters has said that Sanders’ flagship Medicare for All is “the path forward” and “probably where we are going to go.” Peters has also signaled that he supports “aspects” of the job-killing Green New Deal.

“Bernie Sanders seems to have an echo here in the State of Michigan and his name is Gary Peters!” said Michigan Republican Party Chairman Laura Cox. “Whether it’s Medicare For All or the Green New Deal, you can expect Gary Peters to choose progressive policies over what’s best for the state of Michigan.”
