LANSING, Mich., March 25, 2020 – On Wednesday, the Detroit Free Press revealed that - while Governor Gretchen Whitmer has been a frequent critic of the Trump administration’s response to the COVID-19 crisis - Whitmer has failed to take advantage of all the federal funds available to the state. This includes a request with FEMA for a major disaster declaration, which would result in significant resources for the state. Thus far, such designations have been made in Iowa, Louisiana, New York, California, and Washington.
When confronted about the glaring omission, Whitmer spokesperson Tiffany Brown stated, "This is something that we are reviewing and looking into".
"We now know the shameful fact that, while Governor Whitmer has been sniping at the president as a frequent guest on national television, she has refused to take advantage of all the resources the president is offering.” said Laura Cox, Michigan Republican Party Chairman. Cox continued, “It’s time for the governor to put aside her partisanship and do what's right for the people of Michigan. Whitmer must seek FEMA assistance immediately.”
